The effective range of a paintball gun depends on the paint and what your opponents are wearing (softer clothing does stop paintballs from breaking), but is usually around 80-100 feet.
On average, up to 300 fps can be shot by a paintball tag. However, you can typically see a limit of 280 fps when it comes to paintball fields. If you calculate how quickly a paintball weapon can fire, a chronograph test tests the paintball gun speed.
The industry standard maximum velocity for safe play is 300 FPS (feet per second), about 91 meters per second.
But how fast are they really moving? The average paintball has a velocity of about 280 fps, or 190 mph, which is far slower than any regular gun.
The Tippmann A5 comes equipped with a standard 8.5 inch barrel that offers and effective range of about 150 ft. Not too bad at all, and infact many players attach an A5 barrel to their 98 Custom for added range and accuracy as a quick upgrade.
Effective Range: 150+ ft. Model; T102072. Tippmann.
The maximum effective range of field-legal airsoft guns is all around 100 m (110 yd) with a highly upgraded sniper rifle replica. Most airsoft guns used for field play will have an effective range of around 43–67 m (47–73 yd), depending on the intended role of the equipment.
Most Airsoft guns are capable of shooting from 60 to 125 m/s (200 to 410 ft/s), although it is also possible to purchase upgraded internals that will enable the gun to shoot up to 170 m/s (550 ft/s) or higher. In California, a common limit for CQB is 110 m/s (350 ft/s).
Expect to obtain about 40 yards accurately. When you start upgrading, this number tends to increase, though on average, expect an effective range of about 70 yards. Some higher end builds have been tested to exceed 100 yards accurately.
If you fire paintballs at this velocity and angle them up and try to lob them as far as possible, the maximum range will be around 100 yards.
